Carl Adams
Managing Director

Carl is the founder and Managing Director of Momentum Partners. He has  20 years'  senior management and consulting experience, working with blue chip resources and industrial clients.

Carl has led strategy engagements in the mining, energy, agriculture, property and IT industries. His specific areas of expertise are the organisational and leadership elements required for the successful execution of strategy and business improvement programs.

Carl has a Master of Leadership and Management, a Graduate Diploma in Business and a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours from the Curtin University of Technology where he received the University medal as top graduate. Carl has completed the Australian Institute of Company Director's course, is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and holds First Class Mine Manager's certificates of Competency.

Carl was also one of the 2007 WA Business News '40 under 40' winners, which recognises the top 40 business leaders in Western Australia

Anthony Robinson
Director

Anthony is a Director with ten years' experience as a consultant in Australia, South Africa and South America. His work covers mining, processing, manufacturing, utilities, airlines, service companies and consumer goods. Anthony is a business performance specialist with experience in strategy, organisation design, post-merger integration, performance diagnostics, and key performance-driver analysis. His corporate finance experience includes due diligence, strategic decision-making on market expansion, and capital investment evaluations.

Prior to entering consulting, Anthony spent eight years working in the civil engineering, market research, life insurance, and project delivery fields.

Anthony has an Honours degree in Civil Engineering and a PhD in structural engineering from the University of Melbourne. He also has a Bachelor of Commerce degree (majoring in economics) and received a number of academic awards whilst attending Melbourne University. Anthony worked for five years as a mentor, and tutor to students in engineering and architecture.

In 2000 Anthony led a four-person team in the Australian Financial Review Management Championship, winning both the Australian final in Sydney and the Australasian final in Hong Kong against teams from five nations.

Darren Chua
Director

Darren is a Director with Momentum Partners, and has over twelve years' experience in strategy consulting. His experience includes six years with Bain & Company in its San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices, where he led engagements primarily within its Worldwide Technology and Telecommunications practice. Darren also led project teams in London, Sydney and Melbourne. Prior to joining Bain, he was a consultant with Poynton & Partners, a leading corporate advisory and management consulting firm in Perth.

Darren specialises in strategy and business transformation. His experience covers a broad range of industries including mining, energy, technology and telecommunications, private equity, and logistics. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies in technology, mining and energy. He has led projects across a wide spectrum of issues including growth strategy, mergers and acquisitions, business planning, performance improvement and private equity due diligence.

Darren has a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. He received First Class Honours in Information Technology Engineering for his thesis on distributed systems.

Darren is also on the WA Steering Committee of goodcompany, a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to make skilled volunteering a normal part of Australian life.

Colin Roberts
Associate Director

Colin is a resources lawyer, international commercial and investment arbitrator, accredited international commercial mediator, adjudicator and expert determiner, with over 35 years of multi-disciplinary resource industry experience. Colin has spent much of his time in the Developing World managing resource projects,  practising resource law, and assessing and mitigating sovereign risk.

Colin directs the LLM programme in International Dispute Management at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee. He is a Senior Research Fellow, lecturer of International Arbitration and was formerly Deputy and Commercial Director of the CEPMLP Director of the MBA Programme in Resource Management and leader of the CEPMLP Africa Programme.

Colin originally graduated from the Western Australian School of Mines, and is a Chartered Mining Engineer, a Chartered Petroleum Engineer, and a Chartered Scientist. He also has additional qualifications in Resources Law & Policy (Dundee) and International Commercial Arbitration (London).

Anne-Marie D'Arcy
Associate Director

Anne-Marie specialises in building people, cultural, and communication capability within organisations. With more than ten years' experience in the resources, engineering, construction, professional services and media sectors, Anne-Marie offers expertise in communications strategy and implementation, cultural change management, leadership and organisational development, project and contract management, and strategic human resources  planning and implementation.

Anne-Marie has a Master of Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Industrial Relations), both from from the University of Western Australia. During her MBA studies, Anne-Marie was awarded the UWA Graduate School of Management Award for most outstanding student in Organisational Behaviour and Leadership.

Anne-Marie is accredited in a number of organisational development tools including Barrett's Corporate Transformation, 360º Full Circle Feedback and DiSC, and is a member of Australian Human Resources Institute.

Fiona Brooks
Associate Director

Fiona was previously General Manager at North West Shelf Gas, and joined Momentum Partners in 2007. During a 15-year career with Shell, she held a range of management positions and led business and process improvement projects for Shell organisations around Australia, Asia and the Middle East.

While with Shell Fiona moved through roles in engineering, logistics and natural gas marketing. Her responsibilities included developing and implementing North West Shelf Gas's strategy, negotiating domestic gas sales contracts valued over AU$500M and providing consulting services to regional Shell companies to improve order fulfillment, internal service levels agreements and global process convergence.

Since joining Momentum Partners Fiona has led and provided expert advice to strategy and business planning projects for major clients in oil and gas, heavy engineering construction, mining, and education and training. As a result of these projects our clients have taken steps of significance to their own and the State's growth; increasing their presence in new markets, improving their contractual relationships and streamlining their business processes.

Fiona holds a First Class Honours degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering Science, both from Melbourne University, from which she graduated top of her course.

Sabina Shugg
Manager Mining

Sabina is a mining engineer and has held senior management positions within the resources sector as well as been involved in a range of mining studies whilst working as a mining consultant for a large Perth firm.

Her expertise includes business improvement (six sigma black belt qualified), mine management and management of technical studies in the resources industry. Sabina was integrally involved with the preparation and delivery of a feasibility study for the largest gold mine in WA.

She has a Mining Engineering degree from Curtin University and is currently completing a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia. She also holds a West Australian First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency and is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. She founded the very active Women in Mining WA Network which has 400 members across WA.

Katie Vanderplank
Manager

Katie is a Manager with Momentum Partners, and has seven years' experience in strategy consulting and industry. Katie recently returned to Perth after spending four years with Oliver Wyman's London office, where she worked for clients in a variety of industries across the UK, Europe, the US and the Middle East.  Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Katie worked with Virgin Mobile UK and  previously was a consultant with GEM Consulting, a boutique management consulting firm in Perth.

Katie's consulting experience includes a diverse range of clients in mining, manufacturing, transport, utilities, telecommunications, hospitality, technology, private equity and entertainment. Her clients have included Fortune 500 firms and her engagements include what was, at the time, the largest ever European private equity buyout.  Katie has helped clients in areas such as performance improvement,  programme management, growth strategy, post merger integration, organisational restructure, pricing, and due diligence.

Katie has a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. She received First Class Honours in Environmental Engineering for her thesis on internal waves in the benthic boundary layer and won the Fremantle Port Authority prize for the top student in Coastal Engineering.

Justine

Justine Winston Smith
Manager

Justine is a Manager with Momentum Partners and has worked as a management consultant with particular focus on business improvement projects within the mining industry since 2007. This has included major cost reduction projects, study/project management of major greenfield capital projects as well as M&A advisory and commercial due diligence work in Australia, Europe and the UK.

Prior to this Justine's consulting experience was with Deloitte in strategy & operations in industries such as agribusiness, pulp & paper, and health & fitness. Justine also worked for Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy for seven years, where she was in both sales management and regional operations management in the fashion & leathergoods division in both Australia and New Zealand.

Justine has an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, which was completed at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College (USA). She has a Masters of International Relations majoring in International Economics from The University of Queensland, a Diploma of International Studies from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Internationales, Paris, France and a Bachelor of Arts, also from The University of Queensland.

Paul

Paul Nedin
Senior Consultant

Paul is a mining engineer with 20 years experience in mine operations and mine safety best practise at various levels, with a number of years managing in senior statutory positions.

He has been involved in managing the implementation of several large mine infrastructure construction works for underground materials handling projects in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

He has also lead rockfall research projects for the Australian Centre for Geomechanics, which has subsequently been referred to by a number of mining institutions around the world as world's best practice

Paul has a Mining Engineering degree from the University of South Australia, holds a West Australian First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency, a West Australian Shift Supervisors Certificate of Competency and is a member of the Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Gabrielle

Gabrielle McMeeken
Senior Consultant

Gabrielle specialises in organisational development, incorporating leadership development, culture, transformational change, building team capability, organisational design, and performance management systems.

With more than 14 years' experience with firms in Melbourne and Perth, Gabrielle has conducted diagnosis, developed strategies, and facilitated programs for both SME and multinational companies. Gabrielle has broad industry experience in the mining, health, retail, banking and finance, and public utilities fields.

Gabrielle's pragmatic approach, combined with her ability to work with all key stakeholders, enables sustainable growth that drives the organisation forward while still achieving key business objectives.

Gabrielle holds a Master of Business Administration degree from  the University of Western Australia.

Ben

Ben Talbot
Consultant

Ben is a Consultant with Momentum Partners. Ben's consulting experience was gained with Bain & Company, working in the financial services, media, manufacturing and industrial services industries in the UK, Europe and the US. His range of project experience includes business process design, private equity, commercial due diligence and strategy.

One of Ben's business process redesign projects in the media industry involved the redesign of key executive roles, prioritising focus on finance and operations and providing advice on a potential £10M distribution deal from a third party.
Ben has also provided commercial due diligence advice to leading global private equity firms on deals in the media, industrial and manufacturing industries, worth over £100M.
Ben commenced his professional career as a medical doctor, working at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Perth and the Royal London Hospital in the Accident and Emergency Department.

Ben has a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Western Australia. He also has a Bachelor of Medical Science. Ben is also the recipient of the Raine Medical Research Foundation Scholarship awarded to medical students pursuing honours.

Edmund

Edmund Khong
Consultant

Edmund is a Consultant with Momentum Partners. His consulting experience includes advising companies on business development strategies, value-driver analysis and business improvement systems. He has also been involved in developing and implementing a Global Development Model for a major mining company.

His prior work experience includes two years at the Department of Treasury and Finance as a Policy Officer in the Revenue and Intergovernmental Relations Division, and vacation work experiences at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Freehills, Ernst and Young, and KPMG during his university study.

Edmund has a double-degree Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Accounting and Finance) from Murdoch University , where he received the Vice-Chancellor Commendation Award for being in the top two percent of students in academic excellence and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants' award for the top student in Management Accounting.  Edmund also holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Ga Vin Lee
Consultant

Ga Vin Lee is a Consultant with Momentum Partners. His consulting experience has included projects in the mining and resources sector, in the areas of cost tracking and forecasting, management reporting, business improvement, value driver analysis, commercial due diligence and strategic planning.

Prior to his role at Momentum Partners, Ga Vin worked in the education sector as a founder and operations manager of a private college for international students. He also worked in the industrial automation sector as a project engineer and sales engineer in the United States and Australia, working with power utility clients located in the United States, China, South East Asia and Australia.

Ga Vin has a Bachelor of Science (majoring in IT Systems) and a Bachelor of Engineering (majoring in Electrical/Electronic Engineering) graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Western Australia. Ga Vin also holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance from Kaplan and is a Senior Associate with the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Daniel

Daniel Cato
Senior Business Analyst

Daniel is a Senior Business Analyst with Momentum Partners. Prior to joining Momentum Daniel worked in the civil construction industry for four years in both project delivery and estimating and budgeting roles. During this time Daniel was also involved in the development of tracking tools to quantify carbon emissions generated by construction activities.

Daniel has an MBA from the Melbourne Business School which included an exchange to the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) with honours from Monash University. He has also served as an Officer in the Army Reserve for five years in the Royal Australian Engineers.

Spencer Davey
Senior Business Analyst

Spencer is a Senior Business Analyst at Momentum Partners. His consulting experience has included projects in strategy, business improvement, business development, cost tracking and forecasting, and financial modelling. His experience has been primarily in the mining and resources sector.
 
Prior to working at Momentum Partners, Spencer gained 4 years' experience as a Control Systems Engineer, working in various industries including mining, materials handling, manufacturing, and utilities. During his time as an engineer, Spencer spent a significant amount of time in the Pilbara region, gaining experience in design, development, and commissioning of process control and automation systems.
 
Spencer has a Bachelor of Commerce (Investment Finance, Management) and Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics) from the University of Western Australia, graduating with distinction. He was awarded the Orbital Engine Corporation prize for the best Honours thesis in Mechatronics.

Helen

Helen Barbour
Senior Business Analyst

Helen is a Senior Business Analyst with Momentum Partners. She has a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Neuroscience and Pharmacology) with First Class Honours, and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Western Australia. While at university, Helen was awarded a number of academic prizes, including a Woodside Energy Ltd PhD Excellence Award, and a Company of Biologists Travelling Fellowship to extend her honours project work at University College London.

Prior to joining Momentum Partners, Helen worked in the publishing industry in London as the editor of an academic review journal. She has experience as a research scientist, having held the position of Career Development Fellow with the Medical Research Council at the University of Leicester, UK, and has had her work published in scientific journals.

Navine

Gavin Hangchi
Senior Business Analyst

Gavin is a Senior Business Analyst with Momentum Partners.  His consulting experience includes two major business improvement projects in the resources sector, across gold, iron ore and mineral sands. He is an expert in financial modelling, programme office management and information systems design.

Gavin's recent projects include work for a global gold mining major, on a profit improvement project for one of Australia's largest gold mining operations. He provided quantitative financial analysis and modelling for the team's central programme office, on initiatives designed to achieved >15% cash flow uplift for the business. Gavin has also worked on a corporate financial model for a large minerals sands miner. Most recently, he has supported one of Australia's largest mining contracting companies on systems design and optimisation.

Gavin has a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Finance) and Bachelor of Engineering (majoring in Computer Engineering) graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Western Australia. During university, he gained work experience in Corporate Finance with Azure Capital, as well as in Information Technology Risk Advisory with Ernst & Young and KPMG. He was also involved in promoting Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering to high schools.

Han Nguyen
Business Analyst

Han Nguyen is a Business Analyst with Momentum Partners. He studied at the University of Western Australia, where he completed a double degree in Law and Commerce (majoring in Accounting and Finance) with distinction. He has been admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as a legal practitioner.

Prior to joining Momentum Partners, Han spent 3 years as a Lawyer / Analyst with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in their Capital Markets team. During this time Han was involved in reviews of a diverse range of business models and fundraising documents. He has a strong knowledge of the Australia's fundraising laws and was key member of the Debenture Taskforce.

Dean Karvelis
Business Analyst

Dean is a Business Analyst with Momentum Partners. He comes to Momentum Partners after working for Partners in Performance International for 2 years in Australia and South Africa. During this time, he completed a wide variety of engagements including corporate due diligence, business improvement, cost reduction and debottlenecking.

Dean has specific experience in the manganese smelting, coal mining and equipment hire industries. He has been able to value and build many ideas pipelines, the most recent of which amassed ~$10M in 3 months for a South African manganese smelter.

Prior to consulting, Dean was also a paralegal and summer clerk for Baker & McKenzie in Melbourne. Dean has Commerce Law degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Navine Arora
Business Analyst

Navine is a Business Analyst with Momentum Partners.

Navine completed a Bachelor of Arts in Geography at Oxford University, England. While at university, her dissertation on social housing policy was awarded a high first mark and has subsequently been nominated for the Urban Geography prize.

Navine's prior work experience was at JP Morgan where she worked in structured credit and equity sales. Her recent consulting experience includes two transformational business change projects in the resources and utilities sector. Navine has also developed program office tools and worked closely with clients to deliver transformational value.

Rob Olivier
Business Analyst

Rob Olivier is a Business Analyst with Momentum Partners.

Robert has a Bachelor of Law and a Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Finance) graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Western Australia. During university, he interned with Wesfarmers - Business Development and UBS - Investment Bank. He was also a fractional lecturer and tutor at the University of Western Australia and Curtin business schools.

Rob's consulting experience includes due diligence and strategy projects for a mining contracting company.

Esther Bliss
Business Manager

Esther was born in Perth and raised in England, graduating from the University of Sunderland with a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Communications Studies). Returning to Perth, Esther worked for seven years at the Department of Training as a Senior Policy and Project Officer in Training Resources, gaining valuable skills in contract management and policy development.

Prior to joining Momentum Partners Esther also ran her own successful tourism business in York, WA. During this time Esther was greatly involved with local tourism promotions such as local festivals and  events and was the Operations Manager for the well-known York Jazz festival.

Esther has a strong background in Project Management and operations, including financial and human resources.

Samantha Ruddy
Financial Controller

Samantha is the Finance Assistant at Momentum Partners.  Samantha is a Certified Practicing Accountant with over 10 years experience in Accounting.  She studied at Curtin University of Technology, where she gained a degree in Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in Accounting and Taxation).

Prior to joining Momentum Partners, Samantha was a Senior Accountant in a Belmont accounting firm for 10 years, where she gained experience in all areas of tax, audit, preparation of financial statements and Bookkeeping.

Christie Fordyce
Office Administrator

Christie is the Office Administrator at Momentum Partners. Prior to working at Momentum, Christie worked for a corporate travel agency. During this time Christie traveled Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and Dubai.

Christie has completed cerfificate 3 in International Retail Sales and also a traineeship in Business Administration (level 3).

Christie was awarded the 2009 Traineee of the Year by the Central TAFE Business and Management Unit and also received the Judges Award in the Australian Institute of Office Professionals (AIOP) 2009 Office Professional of the Year Awards.
